Sustainable vs non-toxic: climate change vs health change?

(Non-)toxicity is part of a broader sustainability framework. As a matter of fact, almost all products that are truly non-toxic, are also more sustainable. E.g. they will not contain plastic or other chemicals derived from the petchem industry, and as a rule, they’ll almost always be more durable (e.g. stainless steel and glass vs plastic)

I’ve noticed that when we talk about sustainability, we tend refer to all things climate change. It’s all about the broader ecosystem, and how it’s impacted by our decisions and actions (or lack thereof).

However, when we talk about toxicity, we tend to mostly have in mind how it impacts our health.

Whatever the labels, the two concepts are part of the same coin. They are both embedded into the Cradle-to-cradle framework as well. We’ve become exposed to an increasing amount of industrial toxins by having adopted a less sustainable lifestyle. In other words, it’s not possible to focus only on health issues without addressing our approach towards the environment we live in. And vice versa!

Therefore, as we welcome this new year with new hopes, resolutions and wishes, I wish you all, my friends, to embrace a more sustainable and thereby healthier lifestyle!

Peace, love and plants
