I discovered Stasher bags when looking for a non-toxic alternative to plastic bags and food storage boxes. Stasher bags are made with incredibly durable, food-grade platinum silicone. Our family has been using Stasher these bags for years, I hope you’ll find them useful too! We find them especially handy when on the road, on the plane or as a perfect bag for a school snack.

While Stasher bags are microwave and oven safe up to 425 Fº, I personally use silicon only to store cold food and snacks as well as non-food items. When it comes to using silicon at temperatures of 300F or higher, hormone disrupting compounds called siloxanes can be released according to some research.

It’s important to keep in mind that not all silicone is created equal. If you are using silicone for food contact, it’s best to use platinum grade, which is exactly what Stasher bags are made of. Platinum, as well as medical grade silicon uses platinum instead of peroxide in the curing process. While it’s a more expensive process, it requires no fillers, which can be problematic.

My personal recommendation is not to microwave any food – in a Stasher bag or not – to keep integrity of your food intact and reduce your exposure to EMF radiation.
