Osa Natural is called Dr. Bronner’s of Costa Rica. It was founded in 2010, and has since then been producing similar style soaps like Dr Bronner’s just with locally sourced and hand-made organic coconut oil instead of palm oil.
While there’s a plethora of hand-made soaps in Costa Rica, far from all of them are what I could call “Non-toxic steps certified”. After some research I learned that many are produced with synthetic surfactants or synthetic fragrance. In other words, handmade or “natural” doesn’t necessarily equal non-toxic or safe.
Osa Natural is all about old fashioned soap making with lye derived from ashes, no surfactants, no synthetics, no sulfates or phosphates. Take a look at the castille soap making process in one of the attached pictures! To quote the founder of the company, Alison: “You can clean your fish tank with our soap”.

SUGGESTED USE:
The beauty of a true castille soap is, as you may know, that it’s truly multipurpose. These very concentrated soaps are good for just about any cleaning task: face, body, hair & dishes, laundry, mopping, pets etc Just make sure to dilute the soap as it’s very concentrated:
- For hand, face & body: apply 3-5 drops of soap to hands or wet cloth and rinse. Dilute up to 4:1 soap:water for use in a liquid soap dispenser
- Surfeces and windows: 50ml of soap, 1L of water
- Laundry: apply 100ml of soap to large loads
- Dishsoap: 100ml of soap/1L of water
- Floors: 125ml of soap t/3.75L of water
