Why table salt is toxic

The white table salt is toxic. One of the easiest ways you can improve the vitality of your body is by switching to unrefined mineral rich salt.

What is unrefined salt?

Colorful unrefined mineral-rich salt naturally occurs in nature in the form of rock salt (e.g. Himalayan Pink) or sea salt (e.g. @celticseasalt). It contains macronutrients such as potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. They are also an incredibly rich source of trace minerals – iron, zinc, iodine, selenium, copper, manganese – and about 60-80 (!!!) others. Its mineral content gives it a distinct color, which varies depending where it’s taken from.

What’s wrong with table salt?

Refined table salt that we commonly see in salt shakers only includes one single mineral – sodium chloride. Sodium chloride is extracted from the complex mineral structures and is therefore the most primitive version of salt. To make it look white and flowy, manufacturers add hazardous chemicals.

The end product is a toxic devitalized structure with a ~98% sodium chloride content vs ~85% for unrefined salt. You can find all the details in the slides below!

Ultra-processed toxic salt may disrupt vital processes within our bodies

What makes the industry strip the salt of all of its important mineral content to a single element? Commercial interests, of course! Isolated sodium chloride is addictive, especially if combined with some sugar and fat. The combo mimics cocaine, and is the reason why we keep coming back for more

The choice is really not about a “regular” salt and a fancy colorful one. Table salt is a man-made product with a an overconcentrated dose of sodium chloride that disrupts water regulation within the bodies. Lack of trace minerals creates immune dysfunction and insulin deficiencies and with that may lead to disrupted metabolism and energy production within our bodies. Think obesity and diabetes.

Sadly, because we live in such a polluted environment, both refined and unrefined salt can be a source of heavy metals and microplastics. Make sure therefore that the salt you buy comes from an ancient sea bed located deep under ground so it hasn’t been exposed to industrial contaminants. Celtic sea salt and Redmond Real Salt are both great choices.
